Memorial Tributes for Dave Knight

To my best friend, my husband, words cannot express the way I feel right now. I will miss everything about you, your constant wit and your kindness and caring nature that was often taken for granted. The love shown to me, Lachlan and Eloise was unconditional.

Till we all meet again.
Love Samantha, Lachlan and Eloise

Dave rode the Frankies ride as usual on Friday but cycled down from his home at Motor City, setting off early to get some extra km's in. Where the groups turn off the 611, Dave continued to ride up the Dubai Bypass road / 611 alone back towards the Al Qudra / Umm Seqeim turn off when he was hit by a car at the Global village turn off. The exact details of what happened seem to be vague as the only witness seems to be the driver of the car that hit him.

I rode with Dave (along with others & mostly Cameron) at least four mornings through the week & we would meet at 4:40am for an out & back up Al Qudra to the Bab Al Shams roundabout. Dave would always get up at 3:50am & often have done a quick 10km lap of the Ranches top get the extra miles in & warm up before we met !. He got up early so he could live his passion for cycling & then still have quality time every evening with his family..... often pushing the pace hard to get home in time for the school run. He was always positive, happy, motivated and never had a bad word to say about anyone or anything -  he was a joy to be around.  Cycling was part of who Dave was & he loved every push of the pedals. He died doing something he was passionate about and something he truly loved. I miss him deeply & I will think of him every time I ride my bike. Our thoughts are now with all of his family in this difficult time. Ride in peace Dave.

To our dear friend Dave,

"Ride like the Wind".

You were amazing in so many ways and will never be forgotten. Thank you for always being the one to put a smile on our faces. Forever in our thoughts from your loving friends,

Ange, James, Kaden, and Warren

My friend Dave,

No words, many thoughts.
You brightened up my cycling.
Will never forget you!

Doc Hans

Dave,

Where are you?
Where is that constant smile and humour, which always brightened up a ride?
Where are those pale and freckly legs, which you trained and now can beat us on the hills?
Where are those mid-week chats about the Friday rides?
Where are the jokes about who’s bottom looks biggest in white or blue shorts?
Where are you, behind the Raja car with me, giggling and laughing like a pair of school girls?
Where are you, when I want to have a fun ride?

Dave, you touched the lives of everyone you met and we miss you.
Wherever you are Dave, ride hard and make sure you make everyone laugh.
You will always be riding with us.

Our thoughts are with Samantha, Lachlan and Eloise.

Mark & Jane Shepherd

David,

You showed everyone your great ability to love, your ongoing loyalty to family and friends, your keen intelligence, thoughtfulness and sense of humour.
We will love you forever,

Denise and Martin.

Goodbye David ...

You will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts. You rode a journey of life at full speed - with great wit, humour, love and fun with every pedal - and enjoyed all life had to offer. May you continue your journey with the winds offering you freedom to soar and glide.
RIP dear friend. It was wonderful to have known you; a pleasure to have shared so many wonderful memories with you; and will be an honor to remain part of your dear family's life.

Dave will certainly be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him - but none more than his family.

Thoughts are with you all… Sam, Lachy, Eloise … we are here for you as support forever.

Lean on those who love you – we’re all here to help xxx

Love from Ronelle, Damien, Kyden, Tulli and Ashae.

Dear Dave,

Only 6 months we met and it was always a pleasure joining you for the Friday ride.
Attacking the hills near Al Awir or behind Raja in Meydan...
You always have a nice smile and nice words to say. You will always be with us.
Rest in peace.

Richard

Dave,

I remember when we meet the first time and your "passion" for cycling started, the progress you made as a cyclist and your dedication was an inspiration for many of us.

Your camaraderie and  sportsmanship made you an esteemed member of "Frankies Cycling Team" and the "Dubai Roadsters"

We feel privileged to have known and cylcled with you - you leave a huge gap in the Dubai "Peleton"

You left us way to early and we will miss your presence on our rides - "See you at the finish line"

We send our deepest condolences to Sam,Lachlean, Eloise, Dave's parents, family and friends.

Gaby & Wolfi, the Team of Wolfi's Bike Shop Dubai and the Riders of the Dubai Roadsters

Dear Dave,

I can't believe this has happened to you.  We still remember our 'nice and steady' rides on Friday mornings.

But one thing I always admired in you is your never ending will, perseverance and love for your family. Even when you are having a bad day you would always push yourself to the end and finish the ride (always looking professional with those fine legs and sunglasses :) ).

We will miss you dearly. Until the next ride, we will never forget you.

Our condolences to Samantha, Lachlan and Eloise.

Ride hard my dear friend,

David Goemans and Jennifer Chiam

Dave was always one of the first riders I would see when arriving at safa park, and a combination of his beaming face and classic Aussie humour was something that I most remember from the Friday rides.

The spirit that he showed and the determination to keep on going was something that inspired us all. The perfect role model and a well respected member of the team who will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

My thoughts go out to his family and everyone in Dubai. Stay safe.

Jamie Shirlaw

Dave,

I only got to know you a few months ago. Enough time to see that you were one of the most appreciated guys on the ride and definitely one of the most liked ones. Easy to understand why - I got to know you as a sportsman in the true sense. Always with a smile on your face, a great sense of humor, passionate about the sports and about the group.
Just someone really everybody was always happy to see. How can words describe this loss. My thoughts are with you and with your family.

Ben

RIP David

Your wit, your laugh, your smile and your great sense of humour are only a few things we will miss about you, you were a great bloke to be around and a pleasure to have known.

Life was boring and lonely when we first moved to Dubai, but you soon showed us how to have fun, BBQs and brunches won't be the same without you mate, 'till we meet again....

Love Kim, Simon and Solomon. Xxxx

Dave,

I am so shocked and saddened to just hear this terrible news back in Australia. I will never forget our little Hatta rides where you and Cameron never let up on me. RIP mate, you were one of nature’s gentlemen.

Andrew S

Dave and I did a lot together on the Vodafone GSM rollout- Audit,Acceptance testing.

Dave,

You had a huge thirst for life and lived it to the max, I often wondered where your energy came from. I've no words to describe the loss that is felt by so many whom you brought laughter, happiness and love too. I pray for all who you left behind.
Keep riding wherever you are.

Sean

We will miss you at Chrismas
We will miss you when you visit us in OZ.
You carved a life for yourself and your family in another country and made us all proud of you.
You welcomed us into your heart and for that we will never forget you.

Love

Wayne, Anita,  Kristy, Trent & Max Mailing

I have known David and his family since they arrived in Dubai.  His fabulous smile, along with his generosity and wit, is what I will remember – the smile that lit up most, when he was around his family, who he would do anything for.

Sam, Lachie & Ella, you are not as alone as you must feel right now.  We love you very much and are here for anything you will need.  Our thoughts are with you all.

Rest in peace David.

Alice Hillman & family

Samantha & I were best friends in high school.  Shortly after we left school I remember her calling me, she was so excited because she had met a really nice guy at a pub that she thought was cute!  This guy was David and not only did he walk her home that night but charmed his way into her heart.  They were both smitten with each other and it wasn’t long before they were inseparable doing just about everything together.  She’d drag him shopping (her favourite thing!) and he introduced her to his large circle of friends who immediately embraced her.

Whilst Sam is kind, sweet and gentle, David on the other hand was cheeky and would delight in telling us rude jokes.  Sam would roll her eyes  or just smile, but deep down knew that Dave was just a big kid at heart.

They never did anything by half:  there was no casual beach holiday for their honeymoon – they chose to travel around remote outback Australia for months on end having wild adventures.  If they had you over for dinner they would to make a 7 course degustation meal that would put a Michelin star chef to shame (and for those that don’t know, David is a pretty damn good cook).  David was Samantha’s world, he loved & dotted on her, Lachlan & Eloise with all of his heart.

David, we are so privileged to have known you for over 20 years – we will always remember you in the years that come and we’ll be there for Sam & the kids.

Love Victor, Cristina & Gabriella.

Goodbye David,

You will be sorely missed by your loving family and friends.  My deepest sympathies to Samantha, Lachlan and Eloise at this very sad time.

Keep peddling mate!

Greg Howes

Dave Knight

I'm very sorry to hear about this....

I have never met Dave, but he lived in the same world that I live in. (Cycling)

We send our deepest condolences to Sam, Lachlean, Eloise, Dave's parents, family and friends.

Regards,

Ahmed Almarzouqi

David,

I have known you since 2009 as one of the friendliest and most respected guys in the cycling community. You were always interested in other people’s well-being and ventures, you had a ultra-positive attitude but most importantly, an indefinite love for your family while speaking about them full of pride!

You will be missed on the Friday rides, the early mornings when I was looking out for you to pass on your school run while I was cycling on my way home. No words can express the loss, you left us way too early! Sadly enough, tragic accidents like this put life into perspective and makes us aware that we should enjoy every minute of our lives as – unfortunately - it can be taken away any minute.

I am glad to have known you David. Ride hard wherever you are! My thoughts are with Samantha, Lachlan and Eloise, his parents, family and friends.

Martin

21st of July, 2010 we met.
That's a day I will remember.
Was at the Autodrome and I asked you for a lift to the Wolfi Ride next Friday, thanks for saying yes :) Thanks for all those lifts you gave me when I moved up to the Ranches and had no other way of getting there, Thanks for all the rides we had around the Ranches and the countless times we did the 50k loop we did with Eddie. The last one I did with you was good, Head wind out, as always, and great Tail wind back, as always :)

Saw you countless of times at Le Marche and Spinneys, enjoyed those chats :) Last thing I said to you was just as Summer Hols started and discussing cycling of course, I promised you I would prove that I was good enough to ride the Frankies ride with you one day :) Well, a promise is a promise and I will make that happen, it will still be with you... in memory :)

Last ride we had was 12th July, before holidays, how I wish I called you up for another ride.

Keep on riding, I hope there is a tail wind where you are :)

Rest in Peace

Daniel McFeely

RIP Dave.

I can't believe this sad news, I can't imagine how devastating it has been for your family.

I worked with Dave at Ericsson Dubai for about a year. A few of us used to escape the new office for coffee, not an easy thing as we were in the middle of nowhere. Dave always made us laugh about the crazy world of telecomms here.

You will surely be missed Dave. As others have said, keep peddling where-ever you are.

Love and prayers to Samantha, your children and the rest of your family. You will be missed but never forgotten.

RIP Dave

Love Catherine

Heartfelt Condolences to the departed soul, may his soul rest in peace

This is so bad and there are no words for this kind of mess!!!! Any help to the family myself or my family will be there all the time 0505508659!!!

My Dear friend and colleague Dave,

Its still hard to believe that you are gone.!!

I still remember our last discussion in the office just one day before on Thursday where we discussed everything like work, family, cricket, cycling…!
I recall when you joined the MUME NRO team in early part of 2008 and we worked together until the recent reorganization last year. You were a great "MATE" to work with and always cracking jokes and smiling and solving issues around you. A perfect role model and a subject matter expert and a well respected member of the team who will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
I was never into cycling but I will dearly miss exchanging SMS's with you to discuss cricket scores and making result predictions, esp when Australia and Pakistan were playing their matches…
My deepest condolences to Sam, Lachlean, Eloise, Dave's parents, family and all friends…
You died doing something that you were really passionate about and truly loved.

RIDE IN PEACE DAVE….

Hamid Fayyaz

Davros,

Your tragic passing was a massive shock to all of your brothers in the 41st class.

Our deepest condolences to your family.

You were always a great and friend.

RIP brother.

Dear Samantha, Lachlan and Eloise,

Although we have never met, please accept my sincerest condolence for your loss. I am one of the many who had the pleasure to ride and chat with Dave, over the last 3 years for me, and he was just a top shelf bloke.

Thoughts and regards,

Frenchy

It is really sad that Dave left us so suddenly.

We have been colleagues at Ericsson for more than a year now;
Apart from being a great Manager, Dave was a wonderful person and friend, greatly admired for his expertise, his modesty, and his kindness.

Always caring about his team and colleagues, he enjoyed a positive thinking and a great sense of humour...

He will be much missed.
My prayer goes to his soul and to his family.

Chahine Khoury

Dear Dave,

I remember you as the "guy who always smiles". You had that power to make people around you happy. The Frankies will miss your presence big time.

Rest in Peace and keep training. We will ride with you again one day.

Toufic

Dear Dave,

I was shocked by this saddened news.  I still remember the days we worked together in broadmeadows Ericsson office and then in Docklands.  You worked very hard to get those NRO services cost In time for all the tenders we worked.  After you moved to Dubai, we used to chat via sametime time to time.  I still can remember our last conversation couple of. Months before.  You were so happy.  You said your family were doing great and you enjoyed your work.

Dear Samantha, Lachian and Eloise,
Even though I have never met you, please accept my deepest sympathies.  My prayers and thoughts are with you all.

Rest in Peace Dave.... Until next time...

Bishanthi.

Dear Sam, Lachlan and Eloise,

We are so sorry for your lose and can not imagine what you are all going through. Every time we met Dave he was a bundle of energy and good humour, making everyone around him smile. It was always obviously how much he loved his family and how much you all meant to him. Our thoughts are with you.

Hillary & JP

Dave,

Words cannot describe this tragic loss.  I was away when the news was communicated and could not believe you are no longer with us.

We met when I joined Team Frankie's in early 2010 and your love of life was infectious to all who knew you.  Our Friday mornings were shared having a laugh or two while we did what we could to hang on to the TF "steady" rides.  Our last ride together, you dropped back to watch over me as I struggled that day in the Hatta mountains.  It's just the person you were, always looking out for others.

We were taken from this earth and your loved ones all too early and tragically.  Despite this,  I hope Samantha, Lachlan and Eloise will find the strength in the coming months and years to carry on with the same infectious spirit you had in this life.

Rest in Peace, Dave

Marc Boucher

Dear Dave,

Since I joined Frankie’s  team just recently I have only seen you a few times for the Friday ride, but that was enough to capture and share your passion for cycling and living in general …
How can a guy like you come to such a tragic end?
I can’t explain!
Rest in peace.

Marc

My fab colleague

Dave & I worked together over the last few years in Ericsson and was a great guy to advise on work issues when needed but as soon as that was over we were talking about bikes, bars & beer.
Great guy to have around in the office & we always looked for any excuse to have a laugh & a giggle, possibly talk about the latest brunch to attend in Dubai - anything but work if we could help it. Always wondered what kind of guy gets pleasure getting up early early morning to drive to Yas Marina and cycle round in a circle - guess that was Dave.

Sorely missed mate, taken way too early - my days in the office just wont be as much fun.

Scott Martin

Dave you’ve been a great mate and riding companion for the last 4 years.

Getting out of bed at 4.15am was always easier knowing you were waiting to join me (having already done a quick 10-15 kms to warm up beforehand). You’ve been someone to share a joke with, unload on the odd crap day and do some great riding together. Over the last 4 years I’ve watched your bottom get smaller and your lungs get bigger – who would believe you’d become a mean, lean, hill climbing machine. I’ll miss you mate but my experience of Dubai was all the better for having known you.

Rest in peace Champ.

Cam Brooks

Dave, it's taken me two weeks to try and work out what to say on your memorial page... and I still don't have the right words.

Your energy, outlook and zest for life was truly inspirational.  You were taken far too soon from this life, and will be missed by all that knew you.

Your memory will live on (and every time I have a Mojito I will think of you!) and we will be sure to meet with Samantha and the kids again in Australia.

You've left many broken hearts behind and a void in many lives. Our prayers our with Sam, Lachlan and Eloise, especially this coming Tuesday and on Friday in Melbourne.

Until we all meet again, for a BBQ, drink and a good yarn.

RIP Dave.

Lots of love

Jodie, Marty, Connor and Ruby Minto

Words cannot express the sadness that Dave’s family and friends feel at this time.
This memorial page is testament to the love and friendship he gave to others and others felt for him.
Our deepest condolences for Samantha, Lachlan and Eloise.

Our thoughts are with you.

Jenny Howes and David Di Ramio

Dave,

I have known and worked with you at Ericsson for over 10 years and I am deeply sadden to know that you are no longer with us.
I remember the days we took on the challenge to set up services NRO business for Telstra back in Olympic days, negotiating the multiple service contracts over the years and the good times we spent on the sauce at supplier functions….More recently we use to just 'chew the fat' over the phone about your escapades in Dubai and the around the region and we last spoke about catching up for a frothy at next time your were in town….

Dave, I will miss your free spirited nature, your sense of adventure and your great sense of humour. You've touched my life and the lives of many that have known you and I am truly thankful to have known you as a friend.
We send our deepest condolences, prayers and thoughts to Samantha, Lachlan and Eloise and your families....

Until we meet again
Ivan, Danielle and Polizzi Bros

Dear Samantha, Lachlan and Eloise,

Our hearts are filled with sadness for your loss, the one small consolation being that David departed doing the sport that he loved.
We remember how happy David and your self were when you came to visit us many years ago and have a photo of you rolling your eyes at him as was mentioned in an earlier tribute.
David lived and loved life in all its fullness and the world is a sadder place for his going so early in his time.

Rest in Peace David.

Robert(Uncle Bob), Shirley Howes and Family.

Just attended David’s memorial service which was absolutely fantastic.

David would have been proud of Samantha,Lachy and Eloise

.Lovely photos of a loving and happy family.

Condolences to all the family.

Liz and Walter Braunert

To Dave -

We lost a great guy with a big heart. Dave had always a smile on this face ; it did not matter if he had a good day or a bad day on our Frankie's ride every Friday morning - that's how I will remember him.

A huge loss to our group and an unimaginable loss to his family and friends.

Michael V.
